Atlantic City FC vs First State FC, June 17, 2023
In a thrilling contest on Saturday night, Atlantic City FC came out on top with a 3-2 victory over First State FC at Stockton University, Galloway, New Jersey. The game was a rollercoaster ride of missed opportunities, comebacks, and critical saves.
The Aces started the first half strong, with Sean Fatiga putting the home team ahead in the 31st minute with a stellar finish. Atlantic City’s lead, however, was short-lived as First State FC equalized shortly afterward. The first half ended 1-1, with Atlantic City lamenting multiple missed opportunities, including two shots that hit the woodwork.
First State FC seized the momentum at the start of the second half, scoring a quick goal within the first five minutes. However, the Aces weren’t done yet. Colin Beasley, returning from an injury layoff, managed to find the net and bring Atlantic City level once again.
The game’s defining moment came in the 78th minute when super substitute Kevin Kiernan fired home a critical goal, handing Atlantic City a lead they would hold until the final whistle. The Aces looked for an additional goal to secure their win, but First State FC’s goalkeeper demonstrated great skill in handling one-on-one situations, keeping the visitors in the game.
The win moves Atlantic City FC to a record of four wins, one loss, and two ties for the season, amassing a total of 14 points. This result further cements their second-place position in the Keystone East Conference. The Aces will look to continue their good form in the upcoming fixtures against Philadelphia Union DS on June 27, FC Motown on July 1, and Jackson Lions on July 8.
As the season heads towards its climax, the top two teams from the Keystone East Conference will battle it out in the playoffs, with the winner set to face the victors of the Keystone West Conference playoffs.
The match was played amidst perfect weather conditions and was part of the Mainland United Soccer Association Night, with young fans participating in halftime activities and walking the teams onto the pitch.
